CMS Announces End Date for Facilities with Waivers for Nurse Aid Training

CMS Announces End Date for Facilities with Waivers for Nurse Aid Training

Only for individual facilities granted a waiver for the Nurse Aide Training and Competency Evaluation Program (NATCEP) requirements, CMS announced these waivers are extended to the end of the public health emergency (PHE) on May 11, 2023.

  • Specific only to the facilities with a waiver, facilities will have four months (until September 10, 2023) for all nurse aides (TNAs) hired prior to end of the PHE to obtain certification.
  • Remember, the Virginia Board of Nursing did not apply for a statewide TNA waiver, so the only option available was for a facility to apply for an individual waiver last fall.

For most facilities in Virginia, TNAs have not be permitted to work after October 6, 2022.

  • The process for applying for a facility waiver was outlined in the August 29, 2022 revision of QSO-22-15-NH.
