20 Win Regirer Nursing Scholarships

Mirabel Mbuchu from Willow Oaks at Birmingham Green – Manassas is a 2016 Regirer Nursing Scholarship recipient.

The Commonwealth Long Term Care Foundation congratulates the 20 recipients of the 2016 Regirer Nursing Scholarships.  The Foundation awarded $30,000 in scholarships this year. Each awardee will receive $1,500 toward the cost of his or her nursing education.

On behalf of the Foundation, the Regirer Nursing Scholarship Committee members are pleased to announce the 2016 scholarship recipients:

“It was a very competitive selection process this year and we are excited to offer these scholarships to 20 individuals who are committed to nursing and providing care to residents in our nursing and assisted living facilities,” remarked Sharon Darby of Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU, Chairman of the Nursing Scholarship Committee.

To receive the award, each recipient completed an extensive application, was personally interviewed by a member of the VHCA-VCAL Nursing Scholarship Committee.  Applicants agree to work in a VHCA-VCAL member long term care facility after graduation.

The Commonwealth Long Term Care Foundation is the 501c(3) tax-exempt organization affiliated with VHCA-VCAL. The scholarships are named for Walter and Maria Teresa Regirer, members and leaders of VHCA who led efforts to improve access to long term care education for career professionals.  The Regirer Nursing Scholarship Program is designed to promote and support quality of care and to enhance the educational level of nurses currently working in VHCA-VCAL member centers.  Since the inception of the Foundation in 1997, it has awarded Regirer Nursing Scholarships totaling $614,975 to 426 recipients.
