Overview

While nursing home residents have always had the right to accept or refuse care recommended by their health care providers, the Requirements of Participation “mega rule” ushered in new requirements to strengthen the process around informed consent. This webinar will focus on the components of F552 – Planning and Implementing Care, while highlighting challenges such as staff competency, risk and alternative identification, and lack of timely access to surrogate decision makers. Through deficiency data analysis and case studies, Bill Vaughan will identify trends and patterns at F552. He will also discuss person-centered care in the context of QAPI and F552.

Webinar Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  1. Define the term “treatment” per the guidance to surveyors at F552.
  2. Describe the training and experience required by staff to competently engage a resident in a discussion concerning informed consent.
  3. Identify three concepts which must be disclosed to a resident before proposed care is provided.
