Overview
Surveyors are working to address the backlog of surveys spurred by the pandemic. Under the latest CMS guidance, facilities are subject to focused infection control surveys, recertification surveys, and investigations of complaints and facility-reported incidents.
During this multi-part, virtual event, Mary Chiles, RN, RAC-CT QCP and members of the CHC team will begin program on January 18 by taking a deep dive into the 2021 results of the Long Term Care Survey Process (LTCSP) using data from SMART. They will share information on the most-cited deficiencies and drill down to identify trends in scope and severity as well as the most frequent reasons why specific F-Tags were cited. Looking at this data, you will also learn how systems and processes in daily use can be attributed to multiple deficiencies. As providers need to adapt to the changes in the regulatory landscape, you’ll get advice on how to embrace the changes and examine your systems and processes to find new opportunities for improved and sustainable outcomes.
The sessions on January 19 will focus on discussions about facility-initiated discharges and the November 2021 report from the Office of Inspector General. Courtney Petley will explore the risks and psychosocial impact that transfers and discharges may have on the residents. Peter Mellette will also discuss guidelines and the legal requirements for discharging challenging residents or those who have needs that cannot be met in the facility.

- submitting your 2567 and cover letter to Mary Chiles. Information from your survey will be added to SMART.
- responding to the SMART Questionnaire to help us learn more about the survey environment. Responses are kept confidential and only shared in aggregate summary.
