Overview

Join us for a multi-part webinar series to help you understand the components of the Medicaid Nursing Facility Value-Based Purchasing (VBP) Program. The VBP Program is designed to provide opportunities for nursing facilities to obtain financial incentives for meeting program thresholds and goals for enhanced quality of care. DMAS has finalized the methodology for the VBP Program and the performance period is already underway for the two staffing and four quality metrics. The VBP Program formally starts on July 1, 2022, so now is the time to get ready for implementation.

During the first session in this webinar series, April Payne and Judy Wilhide Brandt will provide you with a program overview. Mary Chiles and Sarah Marks will lead four subsequent sessions to take a deep dive into how your facility’s data will be used, the four quality metrics in the program, and how you can optimize your operations to maximize your incentive payments.

NF VBP:  What You Need to Know Now | March 30, 2022 | 10:00 – 11:45 am

April Payne and Judy Wilhide Brandt will explain what you need to know now to complete for the Medicaid incentive payments under the VBP Program. This session will help you understand how payments made under the VBP Program will be allocated to top performers for both the Performance Measure payments and Quality of Care Investments payments. You will gain an understanding of the program components and weighting related to staffing, emergency department visits, hospitalizations, pressure ulcers, and UTIs for long stay residents. Payne and Brandt will also explain the unique baseline period and performance period.

Optimizing Your Medicaid VBP Opportunities | 10:00 – 11:00 am

April 5 | Reduce Unnecessary Hospitalizations and ED Visits
April 6 | Reduce Facility-Acquired Pressure Injuries
April 12 | Reduce UTIs
April 13 | Recruitment and Retention, and Enhancing Nursing Staff Engagement

While much of the data for the assessing performance under the VPB Program will be obtained from transmitted MDS assessments, claims, and PBJ reports, that data is only as good as the facility’s foundational structures, understanding and monitoring of systems and processes on a daily basis. Mary Chiles and Sarah Marks will share information in these four sessions to provide you a detailed understanding of what data is being used, where it comes from, and how daily operations have a direct impact on what is reported. The sessions will help you shift your thinking toward a more proactive approach—prioritizing prevention rather than response.
