Overview

Significant changes are coming to the Long-Term Care Facility Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) 3.0 User’s Manual effective October 1, 2023. During this day-long program, Judy Brandt will help you take a close look at the changes and examine the interdisciplinary process required to capture the new items. She will also outline the potential impact these MDS changes will have on your facility.

Line by line coding instructions for new and revised sections will include:

  • Discussion of clinical and payment ramifications as noted in the draft RAI Manual.
  • Explanation of which item sets contain new or revised information.
  • Discussion of ramifications of the deletion of Section G items with explanation of which items are now in GG.
  • Considerations for new/changed data collection from CNA and nursing staff to support new requirements.
  • Discuss operational implications of adding social determinants of health to some item sets.
  • Understand CMS priorities for the 2022–2032 Framework for Health Equity as it relates to data collection on the MDS and other clinical considerations.
  • Understand what is meant by “indication for use” in the new section “High-Risk Drug Classes.”
  • Review the greatly expanded Part A PPS Discharge and implications for the SNF-QRP program with many more required data elements to avoid the 2 percent APU penalty.
  • Any breaking news about state case-mix from the Medicaid agency, if available.

Who should attend?

Administrators, directors of nursing, MDS coordinators, corporate consultants, and interdisciplinary team (IDT) members involved in coding the MDS should attend.
