Mr. James McGinn, 63 years old, was born in Rochester, New York, the second oldest of nine siblings. He attended school in Rochester and later moved to Ohio when his family relocated. He studied Psychology at Ohio State University until the family relocated to Vienna, Virginia. There he completed his B.A. in Psychology at George Mason University.
Mr. McGinnâs intriguing work career started at Rolling Stone Magazine and Xerox Corporation in sales. Later he worked at Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts in Vienna, Virginia where he met numerous celebrities.
In recent years, a stroke awoke his dormant symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and left him unable to live independently. Mr. McGinn adjusted to his new surroundings by interacting with others and by voraciously reading. He has read well over 500 novels ranging from John Updike to Mother Goose to Shakespeare. Then in 2012 he began to write his first novel.
Fortuitously, Mr. McGinn possesses an exceptional degree of open-mindedness along with a strong sense of humor and irony. This has allowed him to successfully adapt to unanticipated circumstances while his creative, literary mind is such that he is not confined by his environment. He was inspired to start his novel, Blue Shift East when he recognized he could focus his time constructively. Working daily on his iPad in the confines of his side of a shared room, Mr. McGinnâs focuses his novel on the importance of the process of living and striving, rather than the attainment of a goal. He espouses Paul Kleeâs belief that âbecomingâ is superior to âbeingâ, and lives his life by the maxim that one should work hard, play hard and optimize oneâs time.
Mr. James McGinn is a resident of Cherrydale Health and Rehabilitation Center in Arlington where he has resided since March 2010.
