2016 brought a whirlwind of changes for nursing facilities.  Phase 1 of the new Requirements of Participation rule presented nursing centers with the most wide-sweeping regulatory changes since 1991.  With the new rule came additional guidance and new sanctions. Surveys brought with them an increase in both the number of deficiencies and those being cited at higher scope and severity.

Preliminary analysis of 2016 surveys in Virginia clearly shows that concerns about resident safety underpin many of the deficiencies cited.  Resident safety can include a broad range of issues including the failure to provide adequate or timely care, failure to follow the plan of care, failure to identify and notify others of a change in resident condition, medication administration errors, and failure to maintain a safe environment.  During this day-long program, we will discuss these trends and how to address them.

Join us February 28 to share your experiences and best practices for resident safety including:  physical environment, resident care  including prevention of falls, injuries, elopements/unsafe wandering, unsafe smoking, etc. We will also review improved operational processes in the new regulations such as side rail assessments for entrapment and bed inspections.
