Board of LTC Administrators Issues Updated Regulations

What’s new: Changes to the Board of Long Term Care Administrator’s regulations for nursing home and assisted living administrators take effect December 21, 2022. The changes affect three areas:

Summary of the changes for licensure of ALFAs:

  1. Clarifies and enhances training and supervision requirements for prospective nursing home and assisted living facility administrators receiving pre-licensure training in an Administrator-in-Training (AIT) program.
  2. Establishes an additional pathway for individuals to qualify for AIT training in the assisted living setting and strengthen the current requirement for college or university coursework to include coursework in business and/or human services.
  3. Offers continuing education credit for preceptors who supervise AITs and to enhance the training and continuing education received by both AITs and administrators related to mental impairments, including, but not limited to dementia and Alzheimer’s.
  4. Specifies limitations on the ALFs that qualify for an AIT program.

The Board also announced that the National Association of Long Term Care Administrator Boards (NAB) updated and reorganized its Domains of Practice for all long term care lines of service.

The NAB updates affect:
