Resident Agreements Are Most Important ALF Documents

Provider Magazine published a “Special Report” by attorney Timothy Ford on assisted living resident agreements, which states, “Perhaps the only thing worse than a poorly drafted resident agreement is not having one at all.” Ford writes that, from a legal perspective, if the facility lacks a signed copy, “it doesn’t actually have one at all.”

The article addresses various modifications that may need to be made to individualize each facility’s resident agreement, related laws, and various other potential issues. Ford concludes by emphasizing, “The resident agreement is the single most important document for the facility and must be treated as such.”
