General Assembly Week One Update and Legislative Conference Reminders

A view of the Virginia State Capitol Buiding. What’s happening: A week into the 2024 General Assembly session, legislators have introduced nearly 2,200 bills and resolutions.

  • VHCA-VCAL is still assessing the impact of bills and meeting with bill patrons and key committee members that will consider the proposals.
  • Legislation has been introduced on a range of topics with the potential to impact assisted living including the use of civil commitments and temporary detention orders for individuals with a dementia diagnosis, paid leave, minimum wage, and guardianship.

We’ll have a complete look at legislation affecting assisted living and long term care as part of the Legislative Conference on January 31 – February 1.
