Review of ALF Standards Underway in Advance of Public Comment Period

Review of ALF Standards Underway in Advance of Public Comment Period

What’s happening: The VCAL Committee is reviewing the standards for assisted living facilities in advance of DSS issuing a formal request for public comments on the standards for assisted living facilities.

  • DSS issued a notice of intended regulatory action related to the standards to simplify and clarify language, improve definitions, and make technical edits for ease of understanding and any other changes deemed necessary.

For context: Gov. Glenn Youngkin has directed all state agencies to reduce discretionary regulatory requirements by 25 percent. DSS is specifically seeking input on:

  • which requirements are unnecessary and burdensome; and
  • which requirements are not essential for the health and safety of residents in care.

How to get involved: The VCAL Committee has scheduled meetings for March 23, April 6, and April 20 to review the current standards and make recommendations for edits.
